The County Recorder, by statute, is also the Registrar of Titles under the torrens or registered land system. The Registrar of Titles along with the Examiner of Titles must examine documents presented to determine they meet the legal requirements for transfer.
The County Recorder / Registrar of Titles is an appointed position by the County Board.
Responsibilities
The primary responsibilities of the County Recorder's office are to:
Accept real estate documents for filing
Maintain a permanent repository of recorded documents for real property in Crow Wing County including:
Contracts for deeds
Deeds
Mortgages
Probate documents
Various others
