Listed below are common types of documents served by the Sheriff's Office along with any specific service requirements. Please complete and submit this form (PDF) with every process brought to the Sheriff's Office for service. 

Definitions of Service Types

Personal Service - service upon an individual in the state shall be accomplished by delivering a copy of the document to the individual personally.

Substituted Service (Sub-served) - service upon an individual by leaving a copy at his/her usual place of abode with another person of suitable age and discretion residing therein.

Summons and Complaint

  • No service deadline unless specified
  • May be sub-served

Summons and Petition for Dissolution of Marriage

  • No service deadline unless specified
  • Must be personally served

Subpoena / Subpoena in a Civil Case

  • May be served up to the court date
  • May be sub-served

Statement of Claim and Summons

  • Must be served at least 10 days prior to the court date
  • May be sub-served

Order to Show Cause

  • Must be served at least 5 days prior to the court date
  • Must be personally served

Motion to Modify Child Support

  • Must be served at least 14 days prior to the hearing
  • May be sub-served

Notice to Establish Custody and Parenting Time

  • Must be served at least 20 days prior to the hearing
  • May be sub-served

Response to a Request to Establish Custody and Parenting Time

  • Must be served at least 10 days prior to the hearing
  • May be sub-served

Notice of Cancellation of Contract for Deed

  • No service deadline unless specified
  • May be sub-served
