Portage Lake Trail
The proposed Portage Lake Trail has been identified as a strategic priority in the Crow Wing County Comprehensive Recreation Trails Plan. This plan was adopted by the County Board of Commissioners in February of 2012.
Phase I
Construction of the first phase of the Portage Lake Trail began in 2013 with additional improvements recently completed in 2014. Parking is available off Iverson Road in Irondale Township in Central Crow Wing County. Just before the City of Riverton, travel northeast on Co. Road 128 for 0.6 miles, then left on Iverson Road for another 0.6 miles. Parking is on the left side of Iverson Road
Available Recreation Activities
The area offers a great hiking opportunity to see high above nearby Gillespie Lake and a longer hike to Portage. The trails have benches and canoe or kayak rest stations. Portage Lake is home to several breeding loons and other wildlife.
