The Crow Wing County Highway Department has completed the 2016 construction program. The 2016-2020 Highway Improvement Program identified 18 county roadway projects and 6 township level project in the unorganized territories to be performed in 2016. All 24 of these projects were constructed between April and October of the past year.
The estimated cost for all the projects was anticipated to be approximately $9.5 million. Due to lower fuel and petroleum related costs, the actual final costs of these projects was $7.8 million. Of this amount, the funding sources utilized were:
State Gas Tax - $4.25 million
Property Tax Levy - $400k
Federal Funds - $400k
Local Option Sales Tax - $800k
Unorganized Territory Property Tax - $450k
Grant and Cost Shares - $1.5 million
The 2016 program included 15 resurfacing projects, 1 reconstruction, 2 bridge replacements, 3 safety/erosion control improvements, 2 pavement marking projects and 1 preventative maintenance surfacing project.
